2023 Art Goals

This year, I want to be more honest with myself. I’ve always tried to work towards becoming a better artist, but last year I stagnated a bit. I stopped believing in myself and my art and struggled a lot with where I wanted to be as an artist. After many pep talks and some self reflection, I’m finally deciding to try harder.

I want to explore my digital painting style more. In the past, I’ve used this style to create realistic portraits and in the Mermay challenge during May. I’ve received incredible feedback and enjoy creating in this style. When I return to my normal art style and stumble. I worry that I’m not good enough and that, regardless of what I create, I will be a disappointment.

Reflecting on my art recently has made me realize I’ve had a horrible mindset when it comes to creating. I haven’t had a personal goal when drawing. Any art I make, I hope I can meet the expectations of others but fail to consider my own. In recognizing this, I’ve started to create art that I’m super proud of. I want to continue improving on this mindset and fueling my creative energies even more!

Side note: being sick for a week is a huge detriment to creating and being happy with where I stand. It has been a great learning opportunity to not overwork myself and allow myself to rest when needed. A difficult lesson, but a much needed one!
